If you’ve been thinking about starting a restaurant, it might be time to sit down and come up with a plan to turn your dream into reality.

The restaurant business is notorious for long hours and a high degree of failure. Consultant Doug Roth joined the WBBM Noon Business Hour on Friday to share some fundamentals in giving your venture a chance at success.

“Before you go into the business, work for other people. Work for the Boka or the Lettuce Entertain You restaurant groups of the world, and you really are able to build up that resume and then go out and do it,” said Doug Roth, founder of Playground Hospitality.

He adds: “It’s a very labor-intensive, detail-oriented type of industry, and you have to always be focused on each and every penny that comes through the door.”
